On April 19th\, SalonEra guests scholar Susan McClary\, soprano Michele Kennedy\, and tenor Jason McStoots bring the story to life through conversation and music that spans the centuries. Audiences will enjoy excerpts from Monteverdi’s Orfeo and Charpentier’s La descente d’Orphée aux enfers (in archival performances shared with SalonEra by the Boston Early Music Festival) as we consider different artistic interpretations of the story including Marcel Camus’ 1959 film Black Orpheus. Tune in for new remote collaborations of music by Monteverdi\, Rameau\, Maurice Green\, and Vaughn Williams\, each of whom used the Orpheus story to probe connections between humanity and music.\n \n [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nProgram includes \nLuiz Bonf├í (1922 – 2001)\n“Manh├ú de Carnaval” \nMaurice Greene (1696 – 1755)\n“Orpheus and his lute” \nClaudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)\n“Si dolce il tormento” \nRalph Vaughan Williams (1872 – 1958)\n“Orpheus with his lute” \nand excerpts from: \nJean-Philippe Rameau (1683 – 1764)\nOrphée \nMarc-Antoine Charpentier (1643 – 1704)\nOrphée descente aux enfers \nMonteverdi\nOrfeo\n \n \n[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awm9X6OvrBI” title=”SalonEra: The Orpheus Myth Trailer”][vc_separator type=”normal” color=”#00a0b3″ thickness=”10″][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text] \nRegister for SalonEra\nYou’ll receive a link by email to view the show![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner]Buy Tickets[/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” use_as_box=”use_row_as_box” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” row_negative_margin=”disable_negative_margin” css_animation=”” css=”.vc_custom_1560796026176{background-color: #f7f7f7 !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text] \nEvent Details\nCost: \nConsider making a $10 suggested donation per episode\, or subscribing to the series for a suggested donation of $75. \nYour support compensates our participating artists\, whose livelihoods have been so dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. SUMMARY:SalonEra: All-Bach
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern” z_index=””][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text] The music of J.S. Bach is at once joyful and serious\, accessible and intellectual. Perhaps most importantly\, it feeds the soul in troubled times. \nDon’t miss our debut episode featuring Sherezade Panthaki (soprano)\, Shelby Yamin (violin) and Salonera Artists in Residence Eric Milnes (keyboard) and Mélisande Corriveau (viola da gamba and cello). \nA salon experience for the 21st century\, SalonEra introduces local and national audiences to a wide range of artists and performing traditions while deepening understanding and appreciation for the early music art form.
