LES DÉLICES FEATURES PERFORMER SEÁN DAGHER IN FREE NEO PERFORMANCES & SEA SHANTY SING-ALONGS, MARCH 6-9, 2025
CLEVELAND – Cleveland-based chamber music ensemble Les Délices will present a series of community events and performances March 6-9, 2025 featuring special guest vocalist and Irish bouzouki player Séan Dagher. A musical powerhouse whose work encompasses various folk and classical music traditions, Dagher’s many notable recordings include sea shanties and other songs for the Assassin’s Creed video game series, including Black Flag. For these March events, audiences will be invited to join “the crew” in singing favorite traditional tunes like “Drunken Sailor,” “Blow the man down,” “Spanish Ladies,” while Dagher introduces lesser-known songs and shanties from the Great Lakes and LD offers fiddle tunes once heard aboard ship.
This March, Dagher (pictured left) and Les Délices will co-host a Pirate Night with Yorecraeft Productions (March 6); present a free concert at Rocky River Public Library (Cannon’s Roar – March 7); and throw free community sing-alongs in Akron on March 8th and in Cleveland on March 9th. While in town, Dagher and Les Délices will work with high school students in an educational residency at the Firestone Community Learning Center and perform for students at Akron’s NIHF STEM Middle School.
LD is passionate about creating dynamic educational opportunities for local students. “Creating opportunities for community members of all ages to discover the joys of early music is a key part of Les Délices’ vision. Seán Dagher is an incredibly dynamic partner because he moves easily between Folk and Baroque idioms and expertly weaves his historically grounded work into pop culture. The accessibility of oral tradition music like sea shanties will make it easy for audience members to join in the fun and sing along for a truly communal experience.”
Les Délices’ March events will whet listeners appetites ahead of Dagher’s return to Cleveland in April 2025 as a featured artist in Les Délices’ subscription concerts The Mermaid, where he’ll perform alongside local soprano Elena Mullins in a brand-new program filled with fearsome storms, raucous drinking songs, toe-tapping fiddle tunes, and of course, mermaids.
Pirate Night with Yorecraeft Productions
Séan Dagher kicks off his March residency with a pirate-themed party and performance co-hosted with Yorecraeft Productions. Pirate Night will be March 6th, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Ohio City Room of Market Garden Brewpub & Pizza (1947 W. 25th St, Cleveland). Yorecraeft Productions is a new organization in Cleveland created by Audrey Newbacher, Robyn Marcs, and Simone Davenport that brings together local artists and musicians to create fun and immersive historical events. The evening will include live music, dancing, a pirate costume contest, and interactive games. A pirate-inspired menu of drinks and food items will be available for purchase. Doors open at 6 pm, live music begins at 7:00 pm. $30 tickets are on sale via Yorecraeft Productions. Must be 21+ to attend.
Free Rocky River Concert
On Friday, March 7, 2025 at 7:00 pm, Séan Dagher and Les Délices will give a FREE after-hours performance at the Rocky River Public Library for their Tune In River Series. Cannon’s Roar! features sea shanties and pirate ballads heard aboard ships from the open oceans to the Great Lakes. No registration is required to attend this free event. Refreshments (provided by the library) will be served.
Shanty Sing-Alongs in Akron and Cleveland
Capping off an exciting series of performances are two Shanty Sings in Akron and Cleveland. Perfect for families and music fans of all ages, these interactive sing-alongs will be led by Séan Dagher with members of Les Délices. Audiences will learn traditional tunes like “Drunken Sailor,” “Blow the man down,” “Spanish Ladies,” and more.
The Shanty Sing in Akron on Saturday, March 8th at 1:00 pm will be at the historic House 330 Cabaret (by the LeBron James Family Foundation) and will include choral students from Akron’s Firestone Community Learning Center choirs. Food and drink from the House 330 vendors will be available for purchase at this event.
The Shanty Sing in Cleveland on Sunday, March 9th at 3:00 pm will be hosted at the Brownhoist Ballroom. Complimentary refreshments will be provided
