27 Oct Press release: Noel, Noel Re-Release
LES DéLICES’ “WINNING” HOLIDAY CONCERT COMES TO MARQUEE TV FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER!
OCTOBER 11, 2021 – Described by viewers as, “superb” and “the best holiday concert of the year,” Les Délices will re-release Noel, Noel this December via Marquee TV, our new streaming partner. Available for the full month of December, Noel, Noel is an hour-long concert film pairing original arrangements of early carols from French, German, English, traditions with classic and contemporary poetry. Artistic Director Debra Nagy selected poetry and music that reflects a multitude of holiday experiences, including images of childhood, nostalgic recollections from old age, community gathering, and a universalizing sense of wonder.
Soprano Elena Mullins, violinists Julie Andrijeski and Allison Monroe, cellist Rebecca Reed, and harpsichordist Mark Edwards join oboist Debra Nagy for stirring renditions of beloved Christmas tunes including German hymns Es ist ein Ros entsprungen and In dulci jubilo, classic English carols such as Coventry Carol and What Child is this, and select French noels.
Read by legendary broadcaster Dee Perry, evocative poems by Christina Rosetti, e.e. cummings, and Thomas Campion are heard alongside recent work by Northeast Ohio poets Dave Lucas, Diane Kendig, and Julie Warther. Perry lends her warm, rich-hued voice to deeply personal interpretations of the poems. Especially powerful is the concert’s final selection that pairs Warther’s bittersweet haiku “one child’s candle” with “Silent Night” sung with “sensitivity and purity” by Elena Mullins.
The concert, conceived as an alternative Lessons & Carols service, was recorded in the lush acoustic of Plymouth Church’s Chapel and filmed in an intimate style that draws audiences into a contemplative holiday mood. The perfect companion to a quiet but festive evening at home, Noel, Noel is available on-demand Dec. 1-31st for $25 on Marquee TV.
